A: My first goal is to get you feeling better and get your body functioning at 100% potential. Once this is achieved, you decide what is best for your health. My most successful patients elect to come on a routine basis whether they are in pain or not. I am happy to treat you in any manner that matches your health goals as a Milan Chiropractor.
Relief care is treatment of your symptoms. Once you are feeling better, you are discharged from care and are welcome to return anytime you have new symptoms or your old ones flare up.
The patient who opts for maintenance care is often my most successful patient. The patient initially experiences symptoms and with chiropractic care, those symptoms are resolved. Following, the patient elects to come on a routine basis whether they are in pain or not. Coming once a month is the standard maintenance plan but can be a longer or shorter timeframe depending on the patient. By having routine adjustments, most patients can keep their symptoms from returning and also keep their joint mobility optimal, which over a lifetime, can reduce the rate of arthritis, disc degeneration, and stenosis.
When you are in pain your muscles and ligaments tend to tighten to protect your joints. These muscles have memory that keeps them tight so we need to break the cycle. Adjusting the joints add mobility and realignment initially but typically the muscles will tighten back up over time. Eventually we can break the cycle and start reducing the frequency of your visits. Think of it as "one step forward and half step back "until the muscles and ligaments relax.
Think of your spine as a circuit box in your house. Each nerve that exits your spine between each vertebrae controls a specific organ, tissue, muscle, etc. When these vertebral segments lose proper alignment and mobility, the pressure from tight muscles, irritated discs, and inflammation can pinch or put pressure on the nerves. For instance, a child that has an upper cervical misalignment can experience earaches because the upper cervical nerve is compromised which controls the way the ear drains through the Eustachian tube. Remove the pressure on the nerve and proper function can be restored. Other common issues chiropractic care can help with is exercised induced asthma, digestion, bedwetting, insomnia, heartburn, and many more.
